Lawyer. Edward Hirshfeld graduated from Harvard University in 1972 and earned a law degree and an M.B.A. from Cornell in 1976. He joined the firm of Gardner, Carton & Douglas in Chicago and was made a partner in 1983. In 1988 he joined the legal department of the American Medical Association as associate general counsel for health law, litigation and policy.
